Me and one of my doula babies, circa 2013
A Bit About Me
My story began as a 21 year old with a simple desire to help others. This lead to my discovery of complimentary & alternative medicine & a passion I feel blessed to have found.
In 2005 I began my massage therapy education and became captivated with my Asian massage therapy studies, & working with pregnant people in the school’s clinic. Upon licensure in 2007, I became certified in perinatal massage through field expert Carol Osborne’s postgraduate program. In 2008, I attended my first birth as a labor support person, and is when my passion for prenatal & birth work truly bloomed.
My background in Asian bodywork inspired me to dive deeper into east Asian medicine and in 2009 I enrolled in Acupuncture school. In 2013 I graduated with a BS and Masters in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in NYC.
While at PCOM, I completed elective coursework in labor & delivery (L&D) acupuncture with L&D acupuncture expert & author of Acupressure and Acupuncture During Birth, Dr. Claudia Citkovitz, PhD. , LAc. After finishing the required didactic coursework, I continued on to complete both the graduate & postgraduate internships with Dr. Citkovitz at Lutheran Hospital, a low income community hospital in Brooklyn, NY. It was there that I was able to hone my skills, support birthing people who had no support, and witness so many babies come into this world.
During my time at PCOM, I also completed birth doula training with renown doula trainer & author of Orgasmic Birth, Debra Pascali-Bonaro. I was able to blend my skills as a labor and delivery acupuncturist and doula and began taking private doula clients.
As my private acupuncture practice in NY grew to full time, and I gave birth to my first child, my doula practice had to be set aside. Despite this, I was able to continue to support pregnant people throughout their pregnancies with acupuncture, helping them manage pregnancy symptoms, prime their bodies for labor, and offer long term postpartum support.
The more pregnant and postpartum patients I treated, the more affirmed I felt in my mission to help people and families through the very vulnerable time that is the postpartum period (which lasts years, by the way!). I feel blessed to have the skills and tools to provide safe space, offer deeply compassionate care, and help people function optimally and nourish themselves when it matters most.
When I am not treating in the clinic, I enjoy spending time with my 9 year old and 3 year old, being in nature, volunteering as a “baby bouncer” at GROW prenatal/postpartum classes, and seeing live music (my favorite band is Phish!).
